Epicatechin
Cocoa, the major ingredient of dark chocolate,
contains relatively high amounts of epicatechin, a polyphenol. It is well known that polyphenols are
naturally derived compounds with a number of health benefits. In animal studies, Polyphenol-enriched fruit
extracts containing epicatechin exhibited a significant anti-allergic effect in
animal studies. Some
reports indicate that epicatechin can be a cancer preventive agent and maybe
used as an adjuvant for chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
