Ganoderma lucidum

     Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi mushroom) is a group of mushrooms extensively used in traditional Chinese medicines. Its Chinese name, Ling Zhi, means spiritual/wonderful flower or plant. Reishi mushrooms contain many bioactive compounds, such as triterpenoids and polysaccharides. They have been studied for many different therapeutic purposes including immunomodulation, antioxidant, and anticancer effects. Some studies showed that ganoderma lucidum suppressed cell adhesion and cell migration of breast and prostate cancer cells and may have potential anticancer effect.

Status of this blog as of May 5, 2017

As of May 5, 2017, this blog has been viewed for 7,227 times by people around the world. The top three countries have changed a little bit. Instead of United States, Israel is now the new number one. The top ten regions are: Israel (3,447), United States (2,012), Germany (528), Ukraine, Brazil, Russia, Taiwan, France, China, and Canada. Many people in many other regions in the world are also visiting. Thank for viewing my blog and I sincerely hope that you can learn something from my blog.

As to the browsers used, 45% used Chrome, 26% used Firefox, 16% used Explorer, 7% used Safari, and the rest by all other browsers. Again, Chrome is still the primary browser.

As to the operating systems used, 65% used Windows, 21% used Macintosh, 5% used Linux, and the rest by other systems. It is clear that Windows is still the most popular operating system used.

Dong Quai (Angelica Sinensis)

     Dong Quai is one of the most popular Chinese herbs. It has been used in China for thousands of years as a tonic for blood and for the health of many organs including heart, liver, spleen, and kidney.  Dong Quai has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of several different cancer cells including colon cancer and breast cancer.

Ginseng

Ginseng has been widely used as a traditional Chinese medicine in treating a number of diseases and for increasing general health. It is generally divided into two types: Asian ginseng and American ginseng. They all contain a number of ginsenosides and polysaccharides; both are thought to be active ingredients for the biological effects of ginseng. Ginseng has been shown to lower the elevated levels of blood sugar in diabetic patients. It has also been shown to reduce cancer-related fatigue for cancer patients.

Green Tea

Green tea contains a number of antioxidants, including flavonoids and polyphenols.  Green tea is a very good source of catechins, which is a flavonoid; benefits of flavonoids have been mentioned in a previous section.  

      Studies have shown that green tea prevent or slows down the development of cancer in liver, colon, and breast.  However, not all clinical studies showed the same positive effects.  Some clinical studies suggested that in order to have certain beneficial effects against cancer, one may have to drink three to five cups of green tea a day.

Oleic Acid

Oleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid; it is odorless, colorless to slightly yellow. Oleic acid is found in plant oils, including avocados, olives, sesame seeds, pecans, almonds, peanuts, and other nuts. It is also found in animal fats.

      Oleic acid helps lower low density lipoprotein (LDL), which is often referred to as the bad cholesterol.  In addition, Mediterranean diet contains high levels of oleic acid, which was reported to lower cancer risks.  Another report showed that oleic acid is anticancer through the suppression of elevated levels of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2.

Lutein

Lutein is found in many natural products including corn, grapes, orange, broccoli, and zucchini.  It is one of the major carotenoids found in human eyes and has been used for eye protection or to help prevent eye diseases.  Although more positive evidence is needed, lutein has been used to lower the risks of colon cancer, and breast cancer.  Women with high lutein content in their diets have been shown to have lower rates of breast cancer.
